About Us
Moissanite gives everybody the opportunity to own a gorgeous piece of jewellery, which is what it's really all about.
Our mission is to cultivate a more transparent and affordable market for Moissanite.
Transparency
Moissanite was first brought to the jewellery industry in 1998 after Charles & Clovard was granted a patent to produce the gemstones. In turn, they enjoyed a monopoly over the market and sold
Moissanite for around £500 per carat. Charles & Clovard's patent expired in 2015, which allowed other companies to start producing Moissanite. This resulted in three changes to the market:
- Quality improved
- Price decreased
- Awareness rose
The ability to synthesise Moissanite has been the greatest breakthrough in gemstone history. Moreover, the post-patent era for Moissanite has seen a drastic reduction in the cost structure for producing the gemstones.
Jewellery is priced based on the cost of raw materials + labour costs + the jeweller's markup.
Despite the reduction in production costs, jewellers are still charging an excessive markup on Moissanite that doesn't reflect its actual value.
Affordability
The Moissanite Centre aims to counter the unnecessarily high prices that jewellers are still charging for Moissanite. We primarily do this by having a modest markup on our jewellery.
All our pieces are made from 925 Silver and plated with 18K White-Gold, which gives us a balance between quality and affordability. 925 Silver is a precious metal renowned for being fashionable, durable and hypoallergenic. We then electroplate the Silver with a layer of White-Gold to give it a more brilliant and pure white appearance. Doing this is far less costly than making the piece from pure White-Gold while giving it the same appearance.
We love how brilliant Moissanite is and it's our mission to make it affordable for everyone.
